Carnival/Party Ready Skin in 6 Steps

1) Cleanse

Late nights, alcohol and over indulgence take a toll on the skin over time, which results in earlier onset of fine lines, wrinkling and collagen depletion. We always tell our clients that the number one change they can make is to cleanse makeup and daily bacteria buildup before bed. Never let anything from the day, build up on the skin overnight. It’s also a really simply, and very cost effective change we can make to our skin. Really opt for a pharmaceutical skincare line that is minimally abrasive, that optimally wont dry out or irritate the skin. Choosing a line without micro-beads can save your skin from irritation and if you’re into it; also make a positive impact on our seas and oceans.

2) Hydrate

We mean hydrate everyday, not just at the party or event, but 365 days a year. This makes the skin and body’s recovery faster and easier. Healing is instinctive in a well hydrated body. Hydration is an essential part of achieving great skin, we hear it over and over again but it really is that simple and easy if you really make this a habit.

The energy we put into taking care of ourselves for carnival/party season should be redirected into an all year routine. Skincare is completely and totally routine based and proactive.

There are extreme benefits to the simple act of taking care of ourselves, especially our skin. After all it’s our largest organ, and it’s taking the full brunt of all the elements and what we put it through everyday of our lives.

For Carnival, of course we expose our skin and bodies to an extreme amount of sun, alcohol, makeup and tanners which are all major stresses on the body. With all of this excess, our skin needs a little extra help to stay looking supple and amazing.

These are our top tips for Carnival/Party Prep, that can introduce you to skincare basics and creating a routine earlier in life for better skin as you age.

3) Protect

We cannot possibly leave out how essential SPF is ALL year round, and even more so for events like Carnival that are not forgiving on our skin.

4) Refresh

Our favourite hack is to keep a water-based spray in our handbags to refresh our face with or without makeup. The best thing to do is to throw it in the fridge the night before for a nice cold misting. This can also be great on the road. Don’t forget to drink water, it saves you the hangover and also helps your skin to recover.

EASY RECIPE:

Organic Rose Water

Distilled Water

Witch Hazel

You can add Vegetable Glycerin for an added makeup fixative.
Small spray “travel” bottles can be found at any pharmacy.

5) Energise

Kombucha has been an obsession of mine for some time now. I find that theres a connection between my gut health and what I see in and on my skin. If you’re looking for a carnival prep and a lifestyle habit then this is something I definitely recommend. The healthier the inside of the body and the more toxins you can get rid of, the more healthy, supple and glowing your skin WILL be. When you energise your cells and they can really work for you and not against you.

6) Nourish

Lip Trick

A quick secret is that when our bodies are dehydrated our lips are the first to let us know. Using a lip-loving lip balm everyday and on and off the road can really make a big difference. Making a lip scrub a weekly thing is also a must! You can use this tip before carnival to help your lipstick last longer on your supple hydrated lips.

An easy at home lip scrub:

2 tablespoons brown sugar

1 tablespoon coconut oil

1 tablespoon honey

Add all ingredients to a bowl and stir to combine
Gently rub onto clean lips in a circular motion
Use a warm wipe to remove and finish with a moisturizing lip balm.

Glymed Ultra Hydrating Lip Balm is our go to favourite balm, along with Lip Science that help to diminish fine lines and instantly restores moisture to support a youthful vermilion lip border.

Eye Trick

Carnival/Party Season can really take a toll on the under eye and eye area. While we take care of our faces we have to remember that the under eye actually is made up of some of the thinnest skin on our face and thus needs more care. Our eye area can really affect how old we look, how awake we seem and how we naturally glow.

Glymed Eye Calm and Dark Circle Remedy are really our favourite for eye recovery, lightening and plumping of the under eye. Which we retail at the Salon.
